August 13th Boston Sports Update

Welcome everyone to the releaunch of SBOB – Sports Blog of Boston!

I am pleased to announce that I am joining the FanRates.com blog team as a writer/blogger which I am very excited about because it is an OUTSTANDING new web page that is going to give sports fans like us a chance to get some great ticket prices.

Boston is a huge sports city and there is no better time to be a sports fan right now across the country then right now. There are all different kinds of news to report from Boston, most notably lacrosse. The Boston Cannons (4 seed)of the MLL are jumping into the Major League Lacrosse Championship weekend starting with their Semi Final game Saturday vs the Denver Outlaws (1 seed). Boston is hopeing that behind Paul Rabil, the league leader in points scored (53), they can continue onto the finals on Sunday at noon.

The NLL’s Boston Blazers are also busy in August as they prepare for the 2010 season behins the team captain and NLL 2009 MVP Dan “Dangerous” Dawson. Team representatives have been around Boston’s Downtown Crossing Train Station in a booth promoting the coming season and giving out prizes. They will be testing your lacrosse shooting skills so be prepared to fire one past thier mock goalie and you can also win a yourself season tickets if you are drawn as their lucky winner.

Today is the day football fans have been waiting all year for, PRESEASON. The New England Patriots will be taking the field (with Tom Brady?) for game one of the preseason today vs the Philadelphia Eagles in Lincoln Financial Field at 7 PM EST. I was one of the lucky people in Boston’s South Station yesterday evening when “Pat the Patriot” the teams official mascot was giving away FREE Patriots scratch tickets (won $5 too!) as a promotion for the ticket and the Patriots 2009-2010 season.

The Boston Red Sox have been doing outstanding as of late to try and help heal the wounds from the 4 game sweep they suffered from the New York Yankees this past weekend. Mike Lowell and Jason Bay’s bats have been on fire as of late and is a big reason for this; along with Josh Beckett pitching yesterday which is almost always a good thing. Another GREAT sign of Red Sox fans was the appearance of announcer Jerry “The Rem Dog” Remy who has been very missed in Red Sox Nation since taking a leave of absence while dealing with cancer and depression.

The Boston Celtics at the beginning of the week signed free agent Glen “Big Baby” Davis under a two year contract worth an estimated $6 Million. Big Baby is known as a fan favorite player who always gives 110% so it has been a sigh of relief to see the team sign Davis since he took over very well for an injured Kevin Garnett during last years playoff run. The 2009-2010 pre-season is scheduled to start for the Celtics on Wednesday October 7th.

The Boston Bruins news front has been quiet of late of there is a ton of excitement for the 2009-2010 season to start on Tuesday, September 15th. The Bruins will look to continue their winning ways from last season and the expectations from the fans here in Boston are VERY high. There is still a lot of questions with Restricted Free Agents Phil Kessel and David Krejci who are two of the major pieces of the Bruins 2008-2009 team.

Team USA soccer lost a heart breaker 2-1 after starting off with an early 1-0 lead to Mexico in the Cup Qualifier. Team USA fans were almost expecting the loss vs Mexico since USA has lost 23 of 24 games played in Mexico. Good news for team USA is that they can still qualify by winning their two remaining home games.
